This yellow handmade fine wool scarf is part of our “charkha” collection.
This yellow handmade 100% fine wool scarf is part of our “charkha collection”, which is Hindi for spinning wheel. It is extremely soft, warm and comfortable to wear. The plain monochrome weave of this scarf creates a dynamic and elegant look.
Our “charkha collection” is associated with Mahatma Gandhi, the father of Indian Independence. Gandhi believed that the wish for social cohesion and freedom can be sparked by the sound of the spinning wheel. With his teachings, the charkha became a symbol of non-violence that could lift the people out of poverty.
Our handmade collection comes from the conflict areas of Jammu and Kashmir. We believe that Gandhi’s philosophy holds true even today. Hand spun local craft and the possibility to sell it in the international market can help uplift the condition of weavers.
The shades of our sunflower scarf is also inspired by the colour yellow and its significance in India. It is the colour of knowledge and learning. As well as happiness, peace and meditation. Yellow is also seen as a holy colour in Hinduism. It is connected to its rituals like the marigold flowers offered during prayer ceremonies and the attire of Hindu priests.
Thanks to some very popular Bollywood movies, sunflower fields are also seen very romantic in India. And with the remake of the ‘Beauty and the Beast’, even Hollywood has rediscovered the charm of the colour yellow. So did we with this special scarf, which like the colour yellow has more than one side to it.
