This 100% pure silk green oriental scarf is inspired by oriental motives, especially the Paisley pattern.
This green oriental silk scarf has found inspiration in Indian culture. The colour green is a symbol throughout India for nature, harvest and prosperity. India’s monsoon season arrives after the long dry period, with the rain bringing new life to the land. The pure silk fabric gives this scarf a beautiful shine and unmatched elegance.
It also shows oriental motives including the Paisley pattern. Paisley or ‘buta’ is a droplet-shaped motif of Persian origin that resembles a fig, a mango or a twisted teardrop. It has a long-standing tradition in India. It is widely spread, from the ‘manga maalai’ (mango necklace) that is worn in the classical Indian dance ‘Bharatnatyam’, to the famous Kanchipuram saris.
In the 18th and 19th century, the pattern also became popular in Europe. The designs of Kashmiri shawls imported from India were dominated by the paisley pattern, which was later imitated locally. The English name ‘paisley’ was derived from a city in West Scotland which produced these designs at the time. We give this timeless classic pattern a revival by reintroducing it on the original luxurious fabrics as part of our silk and cashmere collection.
