This 100% pure silk Multicolour oriental silk scarf is inspired by oriental colours and motives
This multi color oriental silk scarf is inspired by oriental motifs, especially the Paisley pattern. Paisley or ‘buta’ is a droplet-shaped motif of Persian origin that resembles a fig, a mango or a twisted teardrop. It has a long-standing tradition in India. It is widely spread, from the ‘manga maalai’ (mango necklace) that is worn in the classical Indian dance ‘Bharatnatyam’, to the famous Kanchipuram sarees.
In the 18th and 19th century, the pattern also became popular in Europe. Paisley patterns dominated the designs of Kashmiri shawls imported from India. The English name ‘paisley’ was derived from a city in West Scotland which produced these designs at the time. We give this timeless classic pattern a revival by reintroducing it as part of our silk and cashmere collection.
India has always been a country known for its diverse and colourful spirit. For many people its culture, traditions, festivals, food, architecture and geography seem like a page out of an ancient folk tale. Colours are an essential part of life in India. For this scarf, we take inspiration from the colourful spirit of India.
